Best Job In The World: North America | 2025/26 application information
About “Best Job in the World”
COPA90 is looking for talented storytellers from the USA, Canada, and Mexico to be part of our coverage leading up to the World Cup in 2026. This is an invitation for you to share your unique voice and the real soccer/football stories that matter to fans.
If you believe you can capture the authentic spirit of the game, we encourage you to submit an application. This program involves a selection process where candidates will present their story ideas via a short vertical video, explaining why soccer/football means more to them and the narrative they wish to share.
Stage 1
Following the initial application review, a group of selected candidates will receive production support and a budget to develop and tell their proposed stories.
Stage 2
Subsequently, one individual will be selected and offered a freelance contract to take on a significant role as a key voice for COPA90 in the lead-up to and during the 2026 World Cup.
PLEASE NOTE: This is not an application for employment, and nothing in this document nor any other oral or written communication or statement shall constitute and offer or promise of employment with COPA90. Participation in the application process is similar to responding to an opportunity to be engaged as a freelancer to provide creative work for hire on an independent contractor basis.
Eligibility to apply:
To be eligible for selection for the Best Job In The World, candidates must be 18 or over and resident in the USA, Mexico, or Canada, and eligible to work as a freelance contractor within or from their country of residence.
A maximum of one submission for COPA90’s consideration per individual is permitted.
How to apply:
To participate in the selection process, please submit:
- A short vertical video no more than 60 seconds in length that clearly states your name, the reasons why football means more to you, and why we should help you tell the story about football you’ve always wanted to tell.
- Your details on the form provided on the COPA90 website alongside your video entry
Submissions for consideration will be accepted until June 26th 2025, with COPA90 withholding the right to extend the final date for submission beyond June 26th in its discretion.
COPA90 will not accept responsibility if contact details or other information provided by participants are incomplete or inaccurate, and may result in automatic disqualification from consideration.
The Shortlist:
Several candidates from the initial submissions will be shortlisted and contracted by COPA90 to tell their stories – with the total number of shortlisted storytellers at the company’s discretion – by no later than 11 July. Notification of selection for and an award of a short-term freelance contract for the shortlist will be provided in writing to the selected individuals.
These shortlisted storytellers will then be engaged by COPA90 on a short-term freelance contract, to capture their story in a short form video production or an equivalent storytelling format agreed with COPA90. The format and output of this production will be agreed with the COPA90 production team, a reasonable production budget (at COPA90’s discretion) will be made available, and support will be provided with the creative development delivery of the final asset(s). Subject to a few parameters, the way you go about telling your story and creating your film, will be at your discretion. The full details of the parameters regarding the shortlisted storytellers’ submissions will be made available at the time of selection for the shortlist.
The timeframe for the development of these ideas from the shortlisted storytellers will be 13th July – 31st October, building to an event that COPA90 will host to showcase the stories in November 2025 (date tbc).
Each of the shortlisted storytellers are required to attend selection and announcement events in July in New York, and in November (final dates to be agreed between shortlisted storytellers and COPA90) in a location agreed with COPA90 in advance, with travel and accommodation paid for by COPA90.
Individuals not selected for the shortlist will be notified in writing.
The “Best Job in the World” freelance contract award:
From the shortlisted candidates, one successful storyteller will be selected based on the quality of their storytelling and our belief in their ability to deliver on the COPA90 editorial vision in North America around the FIFA World Cup 2026.
The successful storyteller will be awarded the “Best Job in the World” fixed term freelance contract that spans build up to and coverage of the FIFA World Cup 2026.
Data protection, and publicity, and use of the submissions:
You consent to any personal information you provide in entering the “Best Job in the World” application process being used by COPA90 for the purposes of administering the application process, and for those purposes as defined within our Privacy Notice.
The shortlisted storytellers agree to the release of their names, image, likeness, and association with COPA90 following the July announcement.
Under the relevant freelance contracts awarded at each stage, COPA90 will own all rights in the content created and have the right to use and distribute such content at its discretion.
